The bartender was great. Very friend woman and we enjoyed her very much. However, the food was AWFUL. I actually almost asked if I got could my green beans steamed. They came from a can! Gross. The flounder was absolutely terrible and the shrimp was next to awful. This is an island restaurant. Seriously disappointed and we wouldn't recommend it. Update: When we called back to great a refund the owner argued with me and refused to give us a refund. Terrible customer service & terrible food.

Outstanding food. Some of the best seafood we have ate. All five of us ordered the Dockside dinner. We did think the coconut shrimp appetizer was kind of small ( 5 shrimp).Clean restaurant. Great service. We definitely will make this a regular when passing through.

Food was great. Service was good. We were there on a Saturday afternoon. My wife and I ordered the baskets. Menu said the were $14 if you got the two item basket. On the ticket they were $22. I didn't complain because the food was great. It turned out to be a $52 lunch with ice tea. I would eat there again, but I'll make sure the menu is correct first. We are both originally from Georgetown, SC. We eat fresh local seafood there all the time. We both grew up eating seafood in Murrells Inlet, SC back then it was the seafood capitol of the Carolina's. The restaurant is now downstairs in the bar.

We ate at the downstairs bar. Our waitress was also the bartender. She was cute but the service was very slow. 2 hours for dinner. We both had the stuffed flounder, which was excellent.

This review is for the bar/restaurant downstairs (Dock Side Lounge). There is a fancier restaurant upstairs that I did not sample. Wish I had found this place the first night on Edisto instead of the last. The five stars are relative to the other restaurant/bars on the island. So make no mistake- this is not a Wolfgang Puck place, but it is great for those looking for fresh, homemade and inexpensive dishes, particularly seafood. Service was outstanding and friendly. Place is super laid back with drinking/dining in the bar and outside on the water. It is a barefoot take your dog sort of place with much better than expected food and cheap cold beer (full bar too)- if you are into that sort of thing. We were there early- 6-7;30 on a Saturday and it was quiet, but I suspect it is the sort of place that can get pretty raucous later in the evening, especially if there is a band playing.

Everyone raves that this is the best place for seafood. We weren't impressed. Crab cakes were a disappointment. Who spends $20 and gets canned green beans. YUCK! Next time I'll get the fresh seafood and cook it back at the resort. :(

Food was average. Server was forgetful and inattentive while the place was relatively empty.

We went here for drinks. Great bartenders. The outside area is awesome. They had live music the night we were there.

I can imagine this being a fun bar at night but not for regular eating purposes. In the summer, it is too hot to eat inside because they don't have their AC on and the outside dock only has limited seating. The food is over priced and the quality/amount was crappy. Unfortunately, when we were at dockside there were only two servers for the 8 tables that were eating. I feel bad for theses waiters because they were running around the whole time trying to satisfy everyone they were serving. We waited for an hour to get our food and after it came we weren't satisfied. The French fries came out burnt and dry. The food was okay but I don't think it met the price we had to pay for it. If you're looking for average food and willing to wait a long time for it this is the place for you.

We dined here on an idle Thursday after all the Labor Day weekend. It was recommended by our condo. When we got there only one other couple was dining and 2 people were at the bar. Let me tell you it was good for us. My wife and I both got burgers to change up from the seafood but I couldn't resist and got the shrimp tacos too. I can say this was a great recommendation and choice. The burgers are fantastic and the obviously made fresh patties had great flavor. All the places we ate on the island and these were the best looking and tasting burgers. The shrimp tacos were very good just a little salty for my taste but grilled perfect. The atmosphere is great sitting on an enclosed floating dock looking out at the water and our server who was also the bartender (sorry I forgot her name) was fantastic and friendy. The epitome of southern hospitality

Local bar, good seafood, atmosphere heaven. Service with a smile. Not many restaurants, so what is there has to be good. Not 5 star, but for beach eating, AOK. Frank G

After a day of boating, we stopped in for a late lunch. Since we were there after the typical lunch hour, we were seated immediately. We decided to eat outside & enjoy the view. After perusing the menu, I decided on the grilled mahi sandwich - which was a good choice. The mahi was cooked perfectly and was a generous portion. Lunch prices are very reasonable. Our server was very friendly and made sure to keep checking on us.

The restaurant was really slow, but we kept having to ask for things. Such as salt, pepper, butter. The food was ok, but there are plenty of other places on the Island that I will spend my mine on.

Great place to have a drink - I love the screened in dock (wonderful for watching boats, birds, etc.) and also a good place for a decent meal (nothing fancy, but it's dependable). I always go for shrimp or something that involves local fish. The staff there are always friendly and attentive; we have good conversations with new people every time we visit, and I appreciate the laid back atmosphere. Last time we were there, had the opportunity to watch some brown pelicans - beautiful birds.

When we arrived the other day, the bar was empty - it's off season and we walked in between lunch and dinner. They have a covered porch out on the dock - low tide on a salt marsh, smells kinda fishy (duh). As we were going out to the porch, a family was leaving. They stopped us and made a point of saying "that was the worst food we've ever had". We were hungry and nothing else was open at the time so we decided to not rely on one unsolicited review. We made the right choice. Dockside is a bar. It isn't a gourmet restaurant. They serve good beach bar food. They make their own hush puppies (a southern staple) served with honey butter. The server was friendly and didn't deserve the one penny tip left by the previous family. We love places like Dockside - relaxed, friendly, laid back. Maybe that other family just didn't value the experience. But, unfortunately there isn't an Applebees on the island for them to get thrown out of. And I for one am glad of that.

Got the big platter for two, not bad. Good portion. Great beer list. Slow, friendly service. Beautiful view.

Absolutely awful service when my friends and I came in the other night. The wait staff was fine, but it was just the end of the world when we failed to read the tiny sign on the door saying that we wouldn't be able to split up our check. The food was completely average or underwhelming- 8 bucks for a six shrimp cocktail?

Here in Edisto for our 2nd Annual golf retreat. Downhill from last year. Horrible service, sub par food. $9 burger was smaller than a Mcdonalds cheeseburger. Waitress "Missy" was not attentive of our needs. She said the seafood was not as good as the burgers, sadly, my bun was twice the size of my beef. We are here all week and with limited restaurants on the island, we won't be back. 8 of us will find a new watering hole moving forward! Piss poor!

Hubby and I decided to have some drinks and maybe an appetizer on Saturday the 5th of July. What a dump. I expected a dive bar, but this place took the prize. They only had two out of the six bottled beers on display. I ordered the margarita and it arrived in a styrofoam cup...seriously? The bar area looked filthy and I couldn't imagine eating anything out of that kitchen. I'm reading the other mostly positive reviews and can only conclude that due to the fact that there are so few dining options on Edisto, the Dockside seems like a good choice. Would not recommend this place for drinks or food.

A great restaurant/bar tucked away on the quiet yet wonderful vacation spot of Edisto Island SC. About 45 minutes south of Charleston, this small island features very little when it comes to activities, but features a small cluster of delicious family owned restaurants. Dockside is en-grained into the history of the island and its murals on the walls display this. One large mural on the wall depicts the old rotating bridge that used to bridge the gap from the SC mainland. The atmosphere upstairs in the restaurant is a quiet family atmosphere. The food of course is what always drives me to come back however. The first thing you get to dine on after placing your order is a delicious well equipped salad bar complete with 2 types of soup. Up until recently you could not get sweet tea at this restaurant. This was the only thing strange about it. After your meal arrives you will be pleasantly surprised to find a healthy portion of only the freshest seafoods prepared and served hot fresh out of the fryer or oven. I also recommend you try the fries. Sure potatoes are all the same right? certainly not! The fries here at the Dockside are battered in what appears to be a ranch mix or sour cream/onion mix that makes them simply amazing. I could eat them every day! If you have not discovered the amazing little island of Edisto SC, you should take some time to check it out. Tucked away down a road with seemingly nothing on it you find this great quiet community.

.....tasty meals runned by a family. Usually very crowded since it's located right in front of Wyndham Resort - but what makes Dockside so special is that once inside, everyone drops their "tourist" face.

skip this! we had a very very disappointing dinner on our first night in edisto. it started off with the horrifically bad "public restroom" smell filling the lobby. gross! we got upstairs and were seated by a window - should have been nice, except for the bar below was BLARING music at 7:30 and the whole floor was being shaken by the bass. totally weird and bad. our waitress was horribly rude - when we asked her if the softshell crab special was local, she said "um, i don't know. yes." OK good guess brainiac. she should have at least gone to find out, but made no offer to do such. my husband ordered the other special - grilled mahi. we had assumed that the mahi would be local & fresh, being that every other restaurant in the area features fresh local mahi. when our entrees arrived, it was clear that neither were fresh nor local. frozen seafood. gross. and with a $25 price tag on each! the salad bar was terrible. the mixed drinks were awful. our waitress was mean. all we wanted was to enjoy a night out but we just couldn't wait to leave! do yourself a favor and hit whaley's instead. we had a fantastic, fresh, local meal there at a lower price and with fantastic service.

We are seasonal visitors to Edisto for 20+ years. In our opinion, Dockside is the "best of the best"....great seafood, friendly service, and very consistent over time. Dockside is our "go-to" place as soon as we get to the island.
